DEKALB MEDICAL CENTER at HILLANDALE
Lithonia, Georgia

The third hospital in the DeKalb Medical Center system opened July 18, 2005 as the first all-digital hospital in Georgia.  The six-story facility includes 100 patient rooms, a 22-bay emergency department, five operating suites, and women and infants services.  The existing laboratory and radiology departments were also enlarged and renovated to operate more efficiently and effectively, and to handle the increased volumes from hospital patients.

Designed to evoke a warm healing and homelike environment, the interior includes natural stone accents, fireplaces, and bookcases.

The project's preconstruction services phase serves as a model in terms of positive outcomes created through teamwork, attention to detail, and execution.  The project team was able to hold to the original budget despite repeated delays while the hospital awaited State approval to proceed with the project.  The team’s efforts to review and coordinate the construction documents paid off handsomely in terms of significantly reduced drawing errors and omissions, fewer conflicts with medical equipment, and minimal construction change orders.
