SARASOTA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Emergency Care Center Sarasota, Florida The Emergency Department expansion project was significantly over budget, and the schedule was in jeopardy. Upon our hiring, we instituted an aggressive cost reduction program and negotiated a significantly lower GMP with the contractor to bring the project back within budget. The expansion was constructed immediately below the hospital's 16 OR surgical suites and adjacent to its existing Emergency Department.  The use of microscopes in several of the Surgical Suites required the project team to coordinate and communicate very closely with the surgical and ED staff.  There were no incidents of compromised safety or infection control during the construction process, and the project was completed on schedule and in budget.
