BIRMINGHAM
UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Alpharetta, Georgia
Birmingham United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia is a
vibrant and growing 170-year-old church. Blessed with a
rolling 63-acre wooded site, the church leadership wanted to
develop a new facility that was consistent with the church’s
unique vision and sensitive to its surroundings.
BUMC charged the Architect to design a large worship space
that conveyed a “feeling of warmth and intimacy” and which
was “a place of peace, restoration and growth”. The result
is a “spiritual environment” that includes a new 600 seat
Worship Center and Cloister as its focal point. Utilizing
natural materials like wood and stone, the Worship Center
opens out onto the Cloister. The Cloister includes covered
walkways and a large open fireplace for church gatherings.
A separate two-level Fellowship building contains a meeting
hall and 12 classrooms. On the site are 7 miles of hiking
trails, streams, footbridges, and outdoor Vesper Chapel, and
out door amphitheater, and an athletic field. |
